Sahara Desert Safari (3 days / 2 nights) or 2 days / 1 night
An exciting Sahara Safari adventure may be included in any of our golf holidays. This private tour gives a good overview of the geography and culture of Tunisia, including its rich and varied history. The excursion is done privately via Land Cruiser or other private vehicle according to the size of your group. We are therefore able to offer a much more personal touch in contrast to the mass tourism which dominates most of Tunisia.
After an early morning departure, the first stop is the ancient Roman coliseum of El Jem, one of the largest built anywhere in the Roman world. Continue on to the Gabes Oasis. Visit a troglodyte home and lunch in a troglodyte hotel in Matmata (where "Star Wars" was filmed). From Matmata follow desert roads to Douz. An optional camel ride in the desert is available (hopefully at sunset), before arriving at your hotel.
Cross the Chott El Jerid (dried up salt lake) in the morning arriving in Tozeur for a visit to the vast oasis. Continue to Nefta for lunch at your hotel. In the afternoon there is an optional horse and carriage ride through the oasis. In the evening, there is an optional visit to the Dar Cherait Museum for the "Thousand and One Nights" or "History of Tunisia" displays and shows. An optional round of golf may be added at the Tozeur Oasis Golf Club.
After an early start you will visit the stunning mountain oases towns in the Atlas mountains. Continue to Sbeitla for lunch and a visit to this very complete Roman site, including ancient churches and ornate masiac baptistries such as the one shown. Continue on to Kairouan for a brief view of the mosque and carpet factory before arriving back at your hotel in the early evening.
